Northern California Gardening - Native Plants, Low Water Gardening and Natural Landscaping
Annotation:My inspiration for gardening comes from wild places. Here is a fine book that shows open spaces as wild gardens that we can aspire to emulate.
Annotation:"Carol Bornstein, David Fross, and Bart O'Brien have combined their deep knowledge of and experience with California plants into a thorough and charismatic guide that speaks to both novice and expert gardeners throughout the state... This engaging and comprehensive guide will be a valuable addition to any gardener's library." - Bay Nature
Annotation:If you're going to grow food in the SF Bay Area, the answers are here.
Annotation:"...Includes chapters on basic gardening and design and plant propagation. Descriptions of hundreds of native plants...each presented with the author’s knowledge, humor, and sometimes maverick opinions formed through a lifetime of communing with native plants both in the wild and in the garden." - Sue Rosenthal, Bay Nature
Annotation:A beautiful book by a grass expert on alternatives the lawn. Not all grasses included are appropriate for Northern California, do your research with Native Plant Societies or reputable nurseries.
Annotation:One of the better editions of this California gardening classic reference. It's great to have an old edition you can keep at hand in the garden too.
Annotation:In the San Francisco Chronicle and on sfgate.com, Endicott does a monthly gardening task column, which forms the basis for this book.
Annotation:This is not a gardening book. It's a reminder to get out there and see the Spring Wildflowers if you possibly can. It will make your garden that much more beautiful.
Annotation:Includes information on natural landscape gardening, woodland and meadow gardening and habitat gardening. I love the Tayor Guides; not California specific.
Annotation:Not a slim volume, but fun if you need a reference book. From UC Davis Agricultural Agricultural Extension, so great for questions with an agricultural slant.
Annotation:Pacific Horticulture is the quarterly publication of the following Societies: *Pacfic Horticulture Society *Western Horticultural Society *Southern California Horticultural Society *San Francisco Botanical Garden Society *Northwest Horticultural Society *California Horticultural Society.
