Very good read from the perspective of slaves during the Civil War. Series: Chains, Forge, Ashes. Another very good similar book is "Under the Tulip Tree" by Michelle Shocklee. Well narrated too on Hoopla.

I frequently pull this book off the shelf for a teen looking for historical fiction. I think it is an eye opener to help teens search out this subject on their own but it is written in a way that won't scare a young reader away.
