This is some of the best work you’ll see from Alfred Hitchcock, as well as stars Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, and Claude Rains. Gorgeous black and white photography allows us to focus on the tortured emotions of Grant and Bergman, both of…

If Hitchcock ever made a Bond movie, along with North by Northwest, this would be it. I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m so happy that Ingrid Bergman was the lead in this because she is amazing and outcasts Cary Grant in every scene they’re…

Another excellent role for Ingrid Bergman.

One of Alfred Hitchcock’s most exquisitely designed and enduringly popular features, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman star in the 1946 romantic espionage thriller, about a government agent who falls in love with an informer but must send her…

A slightly darker version of Carey Grant here. He stars with Ingrid Bergman in this great Hitchock thriller. {Black & White)

A well-crafted well-acted spy-romance thriller, but Emil's murder seems out of the storyline because he didn't do anything wrong in the first place. Hitchcock exaggerated the disturbing scene made by Emil. Nobody would've noticed it unless…

Eva Marie Saint in ‘North by Northwest’ said she was drawn into espionage because ‘it was the first time anybody asked me to do something worthwhile.’ More like real life, in ‘Notorious’ Bergman knows where her best interests lie and does…

One of my favorites, with Grant, Bergman, and Raines all in top form.

A great film, well worth watching again. There is lots of now very famous imagery in it. There are some oddities in the plot: why does he fall in love with an alcoholic prostitute? why doesn't the husband just take off rather than go back…

One of my favourite movies. So stylish, romantic, and well-acted. The perfect -- slightly twisted -- romance.

It’s just after World War 2 in South America and spies and escaped Nazis are everywhere! American agent Devlin (Cary Grant) needs someone who can infiltrate the suspected Nazis and uncover their evil scheme, and who better than Alicia…

Pretty good B&W 1946 mystery thriller.

The audience for whom "Notorious" was made is almost gone, now, in 2021, when I watched this movie for the first time. They lined up outside theatres to made Hitchcock's espionage/romance one of the biggest box-office smashes of the late…

Cary Grant not convincing that he loves anyone, but good plot

Certainly not a Hitchcock thriller. Big let down!

I had never seen this before. It seemed like a forced romance from nowhere. There were several stills that didn’t make sense. I’m not sure Hitchcock holds the allure after time goes by.

Probably Hitchcock's best film, though not as flashy as those that usually make the best-of lists. Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, and Claude Rains have never been better. It's a study in tension and character motivation that any storyteller…

It has been quite a while since I first saw this film which is one of Hitchcock's best films. This criterion collection 2 disc set is excellent with 2 separate commentary tracks and over 2 hours of expert discussion of Hitchcock's methods.

A quintessential Hitchcock film. Notorious has all the elements - a beautiful woman (Ingrid Bergman), a dashing man (Cary Grant), a menacing man who must be dealt with (Claude Rains), and his spooky German mother. Spoiler alert. The…

Such a groundbreaking and powerful film. Still holds up as a great suspense film today. And the extras are amazing for any serious film student or Hitchcock fan. Definitely worth the time to listen to the interviews and commentaries.

Beautifully shot film - I echo many comments already made. I watched every single bit of this Criterion Collection 2 DVD set. Probably my fave Hitchcock film. Enjoy!!

The reason I gave this three stars is because the chemistry between Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman (who is so beautiful in this film!) is amazing! Great film and one I would like to see again and again.

Wonderful thriller! I prefer Hitchcock's 1950s films on the whole, but this is a sparkling, tense little movie with great performances. The chemistry between Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant is insane. And you gotta love Claude Rains as the…

A classic. I enjoyed watching it again after many years. The shots are great, the acting superb.

Grant, Rains and Bergman sometimes worked with mediocre directors, and Hitchcock with mediocre actors -- intentionally or not on the latter's part is hard to say. He sometimes favoured casting for type rather than ability. But in…
