Clever Mulan proves her worth outside of her tradition-bound society when, diguised as the male soldier, "Ping", she bravely takes her father's place in the Imperial Army. Helped by her funny guardian dragon Mushu and a lucky cricket named Cri-kee, Mulan strives to earn the respect of her fellow warriors and her courageous Captain Shang. Mulan's adventures lead to a climatic battle atop the Imperial Palace, where her family's honor and the fate of the Emperor and all of China rests in her hands.

Mulan is my absolute favourite Disney princess (although she isn’t formally a princess) because she is so incredibly brave, selfless, and strong. Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, this film follows the story of a young girl named Mulan who disguises herself as a man in order to protect her elderly father by taking his place in the war. The animation is vibrant, beautiful, and brings this fantastic story to life. All young girls need to see this film to realize that it’s important to be strong and independent instead of waiting around for a prince to save you. I would rate it 5/5 stars.

Fun family film, gorgeously animated, and with a great message for young girls about persevering in the face of adversity.
Actress Ming-Na ("The Joy Luck Club") wonderfully voices the vulnerable but plucky Mulan, and Eddie Murphy is a riot as Mushu, her pugnacious pint-sized guardian dragon.
BD Wong is just fine voicing the studly young soldier-leader Shang; he is matched with amazing tonal accuracy by Donny Osmond who provides Shang's singing voice (the rousing "I'll Make a Man Out of You").
Soon-Tek Oh (whose name rings a bell from recurrent and guest appearances on classic TV series like "Hawaii Five-O," "M*A*S*H" and "Magnum P.I." among other accomplishments) voices Mulan's proud and loving father, Fa Zhou; Pat Morita ("The Karate Kid" and other film and TV appearances too numerous to name) provides the voice for the wise and witty Emperor; and George Takei (the Out and Proud star of "To Be Takei" and Mr. Sulu from the original "Star Trek") voices the First Ancestor.
Oh--a special nod of affection to the great June Foray, who provides the voice of Mulan's beloved Grandmother Fa. Miss Foray is at this writing 99 years young, and is legendary in the voice acting business for her work in classic cartoons. She was the voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha Fatale and others in "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle," Wilma Flintstone in the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon "The Flintstones," and Witch Hazel (among others) in various classic Bugs Bunny cartoons. She even voices Granny in the updated "Looney Tunes Show." The lady is an industry legend--her credits date back to 1943!

This is one of my favourite Disney movies. A classic tale of family defiance that pays off in the end, with a great soundtrack.

This movie is really good...but different from the original story. For instance, there was no lover, no dragon, no cricket, no grandma and there was a little brother in the original story.

I thought this film was wonderful. The characters were well thought out and expertly drawn. One of the reasons why I like Mulan so much, is because she is independent and braver than many of the female characters from Disney, who looks always to be searching for a man to be the reason for them to live or to be happy. Great music, songs and luscious animation... it's a wonderful animation that will stay with you.

"The truth is we're both frauds. Your ancestors never sent me, they don't even like me. But you risked your life to help people you love. I risked your life to help myself. At least you had good intentions. (to Cri-kee): What? What do you mean you're not lucky? You *lied* to me? (to Mulan's horse) And what are you, a sheep?" - Mushu
