The Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut. They soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history. The house was once a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred. The owner's clairvoyant son, Jonah, served as a demonic messenger. He provided a gateway for spiritual entities to crossover. Now unspeakable terror awaits when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the dead, returns to unleash horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family. Based on a true story.

A frightening Haunted House movie that jumps into high gear, and doesnt let up. And is based on an actual account of a supernatural event. I thought it was well acted, I love how the build is slow to the scares, but once the first one happens it falls into place and soon the film has you jumping at everything. I liked the relationship between the Mom and the boy, and how she was dedicated to getting him well, and when all the scary stuff happens, she comes to believe him and came off as a strong maternal character as a result. As for the scares themselves, there are plenty of sudden jolts and jump scares, those you come to expect from this genre.

I liked this story. I thought it was wonderfully acted and written well. Being familiar with the "original true events" of this particular tale, i thought they stuck fairly well to the actual story (albeit took a lot of creative license with the end) and gave it the respect needed.

I'm on the same page as some other commenters below... starts well, then... well... And b.t.w. - the phrase: "based on a true story" leaves Hollywood a huge gray area to be 'creative' with the true story.

Not the best but not the worst. I found it quite sad along with the creepy element.

The creepiest thing about this is that it is based on a true story! I don't tend to believe in ghosts/spirits this sure does make you wonder though.

There is nothing blatantly wrong with The Haunting in Connecticut. It begins as a somewhat original horror movie, but it eventually falls into the same rut most horror movies fall into nowadays. So it was simply OK. Those who enjoy crappy modern day horror flick would probably like it, but most people probably would not.

Fair – The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) 102 min. There’s some really creepy scenes in this fact-based horror story. But some of the events in the picture left me questioning the authenticity of what I was being shown. For instance, the house the Campbell family inhabits fires off some freaky apparitions and poltergeists and yet, the matriarch of the family (with 2 young children and an ailing older son) allows the family to remain in the house. If this was a fictional film, I might allow for some latitudes but this is supposed to be a true story. If I saw a ghost, I’m out of there toute suite. Maybe the apparitions were a bit exaggerated? It’s these questions within that took away from the film itself.
