Just awful! Such a waste of time for something that is far from accurate....Flatliner.....

Gritty production values,.. but perhaps not exactly the greatest historical accuracy on castle siege warfare.

lots of splatter gore,.. but apparently the bow and arrow haven't been invented yet (!?).

The acting is good enough, and the storyline barges along well ,.. with nobody as the 'good guy', and the jerky jump-cut combat as the main character.

Well worth it for the visit to a middle ages, without the phony glamor.
(But I liked the first one better.)

Good action and a good plot. And anything to do with the Templars always gets my attentiion.

Non Stop action. Realistic sets and costumes. Good look into battles in medieval England. I'd give it 4 stars out of five.

My wife and I love this movie. We even bought it so we can watch it whenever we feel like.

Decent acting was a plus in this gory historical tale of the defense of a castle against a much larger enemy force. The scenes of bloody hack and slash violence are great. The story was compelling (and actually helped me answer a trivial pursuit question) and I watched til the very end to see how it would turn out. Really held my interest.

Well worth the long wait at the NYPL !!
The "Siege That Saved Democracy",.. a nine month beleagured holding action at Rochester Castle that blocked efforts to destroy the 'infant' Magna Carta.
This film is the most authentic depiction of the weapons and warfare involved during the siege of a Medieval castle that I've ever seen up to this time! (Except for the catapult impacts and pyrotechnics,.. which are unrealisticly theratrical, but seem irresistable to film-makers.)

This film is definately a unique 'time machine' experience !!

Awesome!! I want to own a copy; it is SO authentic. Scenes included ultra realistic, grisly battle scenes that depicted accurate injuries resulting from the myriad of ancient weaponry of the time period. (Right up there with Roman Polanski's 'MacBeth'.)

I thought the acting and dialogue was natural, logical, and genuine.

I honestly felt I merged inside the movie and was living in this grave, gruesome and magnanimous European period.

Fantastic! I highly recommend it. I'm going to borrow it again and again.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performances”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.” B+ DVD

Dark, dreary battle epic, the latest in a series of films emphasizing the ignorance, filth, and violence of Europe’s Middle Ages. This one concerns the 1215 siege of a small group of rebels holed up in an English castle by King John and his vastly superior force of Danish mercenaries. Besides being interminably long (like most sieges), the film is marred by a tepid script and performances, a simplistic anti-violence message delivered with unwarranted self-importance, and a tedious excess of hack-and-slash battles and torture scenes providing numbing amounts of splatter and gore. In an unexpected piece of casting, American Paul Giamatti has been transformed into a pudgy-faced, peevish version of King John, delivering a decent English accent while vacillating between sullenness and sheepishness. It’s great to see 6-foot-4-inch Vladimir Kulich back in charge as the Danish leader, but his performance here can’t hold a candle in strength to his 1999 portrayal of the majestic Viking warlord Buliwyf in "The 13th Warrior".
