FDR did not want to have refugees brought into the US during WW11; and Ruth Gruber persisted! The approximately 1000 were brought into Oswego, NY and housed in old military barracks! It's their story of resettlement and transition. Very moving! I went to State University of New York at Oswego where most of this book took place and did not know about it until my 40th reunion. Now there's a great museum! Loved the book!!
