First, the good things about this book. It is perfect for an early chapter book for grades 2-5 as advertized. There is something for each of those grades in this book. Nancy is a fun loving character who loves sleuthing, Nancy Drew, and big words. She is very active and has lots of friends. She is a positive role model in that she is not mean to others even when they have done bad things. Her upbeat attitude is contagious. The adults also had good attitudes. I really liked that. The illustrations are also beautiful and interesting. For older readers the writing style lends itself for a very quick read even though it is over 100 pages.

One thing that drove me crazy while reading this book is when Nancy would jump from one mystery to another. Everywhere she looked there was another mystery. I would have liked this book to focus on one mystery throughout the book. I would say this book was more about Nancy the mystery lover rather than Nancy, the detective. Nancy also used A LOT of big words. This is okay for the better readers or older readers, but not the beginning readers. This book could be frustrating for them.

This is the first book in the Nancy Clancy series and I look forward to reading the next.

This book will be released in late April and is the next step for all those kids who loved Fancy Nancy. She's got a bit older and is having some adventures at school. She loves Nancy Drew and wants to prove her detective skills, but lacks a mystery. That wish leads to more than one mystery and she finds that listening, observing, and using her powers of deduction go a long way. Her partner in sleuthing is her best friend Bree, and she plays a great older sister to JoJo. From the dress (a pink trenchcoat) to the methodology, Nancy soon has the detective work down pat.
