It is a good book and is not just the classic "Oh, princess in tower knight comes witch kills knight, prince comes, witch gets killed by prince... happily ever after" It is much more in depth and seems to have a modern ring to it, presenting real-life problems and using fairy tales to help the main characters Alex and Conner get through things.

"The Land Of Stories" book series is really good!My mom had to tell me to stop reading it when
it was time for dinner.Once you started reading it, you can't stop reading it.Each book in the series tells a different story. The book is about two kids named Alex and Cornner.Alex and Cornner are twins but when Alex and Conner's father unexpectedly dies, the twins lose the person who always had the perfect story to cheer them up. Then, on their 12th birthday, their grandmother gives them the book of fairy tales he used to read to them. Suddenly it seems to come to life, and the youngsters find themselves falling into the Land of Stories, seemingly with no way to get out. Desperate, they follow instructions in a mysterious journal: if they gather eight items from various residents in the kingdoms of the Land of Stories, they can complete the Wishing Spell and have one wish granted. After scaling castle walls, diving deep into the home of mermaids, and meeting characters from all of the beloved fairy tales, they are stymied by the Evil Queen, who has escaped from Snow White's dungeon. With the hope of using the spell gone, the twins appear to have no way home until they meet Fairy Godmother, their own grandmother. In a way, they find comfort from their grief over their father's death when they realize that they have been following his journal and that he grew up in this land. The writing quality in this adventure is inconsistent and detracts from the fast-paced story. The deep sadness of the twins comes through, but they are somewhat one-dimensional since Alex is so much the nerd and Conner, the class clown. The plotline, however, pulls readers in and is entertaining, and Colfer's passion for fairy tales shines through

Wonderful, awesome, and a book you can't put down! Very exciting. My mom had to yell at me to stop me from reading when it was dinnertime! Super creative and all those back stories made my head spin with amazement.

The Wishing Spell, the first book in the Land of Stories series, was absolutely amazing. Just recently, I finished watching "Glee", and was curious about some of Chris Colfer's other works. I found some of his well known written work, and decided to read some of it.... Well, holy cow, he's got talent. From the first few pages, he got me hooked. I really like how he developed the fairy tale characters to make them less shallow. Chris Colfer made the beloved characters even more lovable, and made us sympathise for some of the less likeable ones.

I felt that the first two books of this series were like, super awesome, and then it just flopped. The third, fourth, and fifth were honestly just confusing, boring, and shaky.

The Wishing Spell, written by Chris Colfer is the first installment in his series for The Land of Stories. This series follows the journey of a pair of fraternal twins, Connor and Alex Bailey. In this novel, Connor and Alex Bailey start their journey on a rocky start, having lost their father in a car accident. However, one day on their birthday, their grandmother had gifted them a story book containing all of your favourite childhood fairytales. What the twins didn’t know was the true nature of this old story book, as they accidently get transported into the very much real world behind the words of famous fairy tales, The Land of Stories. As the twins try to find the only way to get back to their real lives, they come across a Wishing Spell, which will supposedly grant their wish to get home. Overall, I find this book will most likely suit anyone who is 12 years old, in the middle school range. Although, there is humour and adventure which could suit anyone who wants to see their favourite heroes and villains come to life, I give this novel a 4 out 5 stars.

One of those timeless books that you can pick up no matter how old you get and no matter how many times you've read it before. Great role models, and an even greater plot. I definitely recommend.

In The Land of Stories, Wishing Spell, twins Alex and Conner receive a heirloom book from their Grandmother, who is usually away travelling the "world" with her older friends. Little do they know the book contains a magical world. When Alex falls through the book, her brother jumps in too and they journey around the magical land. Through meeting a talking frog, the wicked witch, and Cinderella, The Wishing Spell is an amazing book i would recommend to any fantasy-lover.
