Lemonade! Come and get your fresh lemonade at Caterina's stand! The little bird Caterina really wants a scooter, but sadly, she doesn't have any money. Instead of just asking her parents for some, she decides to do the admirable thing, and earn it. There is one problem though, all the neighbourhood kids also have stands, so how does one stand out amongst the competition? After giving it some thought, Caterina solves this by giving her lemonade a unique quality, as well as sprucing up her stand with decorations. Like Caterina, the artist understands the importance of aesthetics. She uses layers of cut and pasted paper elements; including patterned backgrounds, photo's of objects, and colour-pencilled characters and plants, to create an appealing look that fits the creative approach of the character. One of the few "jobs" a child can do is the classic lemonade stand. It is a chance for them to not only make money, but learn some responsibility while attaining the foundation of a business sense. The aesthetics and advertisement of a product can be just as important as the product itself. Caterina uses her creativity, and her hard work pays off. By the end we clearly understand how clever she is, yet she surprises us once more with one huge act of generosity.
