You can take the girl out of the CIA, but... you know.
===
What strategy? Tell me what the strategy is. I'll tell you if it's working. See, that right there is the problem. Because they, they have a strategy. They're gathering right now in Raqqa by the tens of thousands. Hidden in the civilian population. Cleaning their weapons. And they know exactly why they're there. Why is that? They call it the end times. What do you think the beheadings are about? The crucifixions in Deir Hafer? The revival of slavery? You think they make this shxt up? It's all in the book. Their f*cking book. The only book they ever read. They read it all the time. They never stop. They're there for one reason and one reason only. To die for the caliphate and usher in a world without infidels. That's their strategy. And it's been that way since the seventh century. So, do you really think that a few special forces teams are gonna put a dent in that?

Germany is by no means the first country to spy on its citizens, but the BND was smart about it. They outsourced the dirty work to the CIA.
===
No doubt, we screwed up. But we all need to remember, this program was a response to a bona fide issue-- jihadis finding safe harbor in Europe while your hands are tied by German law. ...
-So what are you suggesting?
I think we should continue our surveillance on your behalf.
===
It's a f*cking war, and our enemy is not quitting.
-What's wrong with them, these new Germans?
I know, they used to fight like hell.

"When the German people declared in the laws passed by their elected representatives that they are not to be spied on by their own police, they didn't mean their government should use the CIA to do it."

We eat maror, the bitter herb, to remind us of the bitterness of slavery our ancestors endured in Egypt. And for us, my family, my friends, celebrating this Seder in Germany-- it is important to remember the slavery we endured under a tyrant worse than pharaoh only 70 years ago in this land. On the streets where we walk every day, our parents and our grandparents wore yellow stars. Let's take a moment to remember. And let's remember the enemies we still have all over the world who wish to destroy us. We pray for the strength to defeat them.

Getting rid of Bashar Al-Assad is not a bad idea in itself. The danger is, uh, replacing him with someone worse than the original.

If Assad stays in power, he'll have to answer for his crimes.
-What crimes?
Barrel bombs. Chemical weapons.
-Bullshit. Lies.
We've seen the bodies in Ghouta.
-Assad's already told the world it was his commanders who fired the weapons.
===
Got a new job, new guy.

So?

When Arabs are killing Arabs, at least they're not firing rockets at Israel.
-That's hardly a long-term strategy for peace in the Middle East.
You really think any of those murderers want peace? You used to be a good friend to Israel.
-I'm still a good friend.
You used to be a better one.

My wife and I were doctors together. She died when our clinic was bombed in Mosul. I can't practice medicine here. They won't honor my license. So I took a job managing this building. When there's room, I care for people like yourself who wouldn't receive treatment otherwise. She would approve.

... what is the problem?
-I am. I am the problem. I bring down everyone around me.

Did you know that it was here, in my country, where laws were first written down and organized into a system? Of course, the Hammurabi Code. Yes. A code for justice. That everyone had to live by. Rich and poor. Even the king.

We've just hit 2,000 US dead since the invasion. IEDs, EFPs, suicide bombers, death squads. We've got it all, plus a raging insurgency, and we're supposed to build a functioning society in the middle of that. What don't they get in Washington? You can't shove democracy down people's throats.

More intrigue and suspense. There seems to be no loyalty in the CIA. Carrie now out of the CIA and living and working in Berlin has tried to change, but she proves to still be reckless and self-focused. People want her dead. She goes off her meds and Her new Life falls apart. Quinn pays a high price for trying to protect Carrie. I don’t get his loyalty to her. Saul is betrayed by Allison and things keep escalating out of control. Well-acted by all!

Very well done spy series. Amazing acting by the main characters. Sometimes I like Carrie Mathison and sometimes I think she is too headstrong! She plays her emotions so well, I very much admire Clair Danes. I am looking forward to the sixth season.

Carrie Mathison is back to save the world in Season 5 of “Homeland”. After four harrowing and compelling seasons of protecting the freedoms we hold dear, Carrie begins Season 5 living an idyllic life with her daughter and new fella, working for the foundation of an apparently quite wealthy German in Berlin. But, of course, her old spycrafty life with the CIA very quickly drags her back into the seamy, shadowy, underworld that is global counter-terrorism. “Homeland” 5 is mostly a good effort, good but not great. I would say the show was a bit better in the first couple of seasons, but that is not to say Season 5 is a disappointment, no, not at all. There are plenty of surprises and intrigue, and several excellent performances in this edition of “Homeland”. Claire Danes, as Carrie, has mastered the brow-furrowing, lip-quivering, look of a woman who is about to cry, but doesn’t because she has important work to do. Despite all her problems and baggage, Carrie is a darn fine spy. Now, in the real world, it seems unlikely that an unstable, loose cannon such as Carrie Mathison would be allowed anywhere near field operations. Or classified information. Or anything at all to do with carrying out official or unofficial US policy. But hey, this is TV not a documentary, so just ignore the reality alarm going off in your head, hop onboard the Carrie train, and enjoy the ride.

weak writing, plots action, and Patinkin is the worst "actor" in any major series, I wonder about how Showtime survives with such a talentless poser, who has zero skills, and is about as emotionless as a stone? This series did well for a couple seasons, and has since fallen flat on its face, and may be the worst pay-tv series out there now?

this show gets more enthralling each season. the writing is top-notch, story lines riveting. I don't want to see it come to an end, but I know it has to end. this season sets the stage for the final act. i'm hoping there will be another ShowTime offering that is in the same caliber.
