Harry Bosch is back as a volunteer working cold cases for the San Fernando police and is called out to a local drug store where a young pharmacist has been murdered. Bosch and the town's three-person detective squad sift through the clues, which lead into the dangerous big-business world of prescription drug abuse. Meanwhile, an old case from Bosch's LAPD days comes back to haunt him when a long-imprisoned killer claims Harry framed him and seems to have new evidence to prove it. Bosch left the LAPD on bad terms, so his former colleagues aren't keen to protect his reputation. He must fend for himself in clearing his name and keeping a clever killer in prison. The two unrelated cases wind across each other like strands of barbed wire. Along the way Bosch discovers that there are two kinds of truth: the kind that sets you free and the kind that leaves you buried in darkness.

Connelly has fallen in to the ranks of political ranters. He criticizes the current President at every chance and makes his Left leanings apparent. I am so glad I did not buy this book. I will buy no more from Connelly. As soon as fiction books become a lecture on political views, I will pass.

Terrific, may be one of the best Harry Bosh books. Great plot, well developed characters and a bit of a lesson about the "two kinds of truth" as Harry defines them. Start it and you'll just want to keep reading. Highly recommended

Pure Bosch with a Haller grand finale!

[Interesting that after reading this novel, I heard a news segment on Progressive Fake News in Seattle {Counterspin, pathetic fakey show from}, which sounded as if the opiate addiction problem was Trump's fault - - and no, I did NOT vote for him, never voted for ANY republicon - - but reported absolutely no content on the opiate problem. This novel gave us far more information: such as the Big Pharma profit-chain {extra-strength laxatives targeted at the opiate addict population, et cetera,} and Counterspin never mentioned that, nor that congress has stopped the IRS from investigating all the Medicare/Medicaid fraud involved, which involves organized crime with the opiate peddling, et cetera! When you can get more from reading a Bosch novel than from any so-called progressive {actually Fake} news from Counterspin/Faire, you know just how useless all the general fake news/progressive fake news/ alternative fake news, really is. At least Ronan Farrow is doing Real News!]
