Prepare to cry your eyes out. This film is not easily followed... so watch it twice? Or maybe three times?

Great movie. The uncertainty of how things would unfold int he movie kept us on the edge of our seats. My 9 year old really enjoyed the movie.

Even though I was mesmerized by the top quality of the colourful detail in this animation film, written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, I rated this film not as high due to the complexity of the story, being expressed on film, and I thought, not all that successfully. You have to wait until the end, for some things to make more sense, but you also have to take a leap-of-faith of the possibility of the story line.
No extras to view.

A beautiful, touching film with a spiritual spin. It is not the most original story -- a mix of Freaky Friday and Donnie Darko -- but the writing, artwork, and music make it something more. See it with someone you love. About J.J. Abrams proposed remake: ignoring for a moment the advisability of remaking a film only a couple years old, how could a live action remake work? Possibly a body exchange between a couch potato city boy, and a Native girl who dreams of leaving her village, and whose grandmother is a spiritual leader. The religious and racial aspects would be tricky to handle, but a sensitive director like Taika Waititi would help.

Directed by Makoto Shinkai in 2016, this Japanese animated romantic fantasy depicts the story of a high school girl in rural Japan and a high school boy in Tokyo who swap bodies.
Although the story seems quite simple, it appears confusingly mixed-up on the screen.
In any case, everything looks beautifully animated and it is emotionally satisfying.

A Korean or Chinese movie that I had seen a month or two ago that is live action is very similar to this story. Only it involves time travel. It's a boy and a girl switching places(or time). This movie though was interesting in how the characters communicated and dealt with being switched around. I think the old american movie like this was Big, 13 going on 30, and Freaky Friday.

There is a list on IMDB of these switch movies: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls062772651/

Shinkai returns to his familiar themes of unrequited love, trains and water along with a time travel twist. This movie is brilliantly animated and Shinkai displays his ability to create fantastic worlds and mix in teen romantic angst. This is his most playful and light hearted work without too much brooding and darkness although it does get pretty heavy toward the end. Does he still leave the romance unresolved as in his other animes? Any Shinkai fan knows how he ends his stories. Regardless, this is another solid anime by Shinkai, not at the level of animation of Garden of Words, but it is a more fluid work than his other movies.

The movie “Your Name” is a well produced and marvelous anime movie. This movie was absolutely amazing, everything about this movie was perfect. The plot was well thought out, with a boy living in Tokyo and a girl living in a rural area of Japan had switched bodies. The animation of this movie was outstanding especially the animation of Tokyo and the characters. The animation of this movie will make you fall in love with Tokyo and anime. The movie included actual areas in Japan instead of fantasy areas, meaning that this movie was based on actual areas. The mood and emotion which the film expressed were marvelous with shock, sadness and joy. However, the ending of this movie was quite sad as well as romantic. I personally believe that this movie is enjoyable for all ages, as it was a marvelous movie with a romantic yet sad theme but was easy to understand. This movie is worth watching it will break your heart, but it is totally worth it. Anyone who enjoys anime or romantic/touching movies will definitely adore “Your Name”. Rating 5/5.

Okay the story was not flawless. At the end of the movie, and even throughout, I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. What I really enjoyed was how vibrant and beautiful all the colours were, especially the scenery, which was stunning. The character artwork, however, was simple and at times looked out-of-place to that of the scenery - very Miyazaki-esque.

It's a unique story to be sure, and certainly worthy of a full viewing. I recommend that you have it on the Japanese dialogue with subtitles as opposed to the English dubbed version.

A story of love, with beautiful illustrations and a deep meaning, you definetly will tear up.
Not gonna give away too much because you have to watch it for yourself. (Is a little confusing so be prepared to watch it more than once!)
