Tony Stark, the owner of a big weapons company :Stark Industries, is kidnapped by a terrorist group and has a close encounter with death. After this experience, he decides to use his money and his technology to help protect the world. This movie was the first movie made by Marvel Studios, so I didn't have too high of expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The plot of the story was well executed, and the characters were well developed. There was an obvious change in them from the start of the movie to the end of the movie. Other than those points, there weren't any outstanding strengths or overwhelming weaknesses of the movie. It was just very well rounded. I would recommend it to people who enjoy action movies and sci-fi. 3.8/5 -@InboundMink of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board This movie introduces Tony Stark into the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and his adventure to become Iron Man. After Tony is taken hostage by terrorists he has to find a way to escape. With the help of another prisoner by the name of Ho Yinsen, Tony is able to build the first ever Iron Man suit. That is probably one of the most iconic moments in the MCU because it kickstarts a whole turmoil of events. I give this movie 4 stars because it is good but it felt a little stretched out to me. I recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Marvel and loves origin stories. 4/5 stars @Gasenic of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Iron Man is a superhero that many adore today, and I like to believe it's because of this film, which is a madly entertaining ride from start to finish. Mind you, it's not a masterpiece; there are multiple things that don't work. The film is overlong and takes its own sweet time to establish the conflict. The antagonist is painfully one-dimensional and is reduced to screaming his lungs every chance he gets. I wish we saw more of certain characters, like that of Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard, as these two don't seem to go anywhere after they're introduced. The opening portions feel overstretched, and one might argue that they're problematic as well. However, generic action scenes notwithstanding, there's a lot to like about Iron Man. The writers constantly find great ways to insert thrill, and this film (rightfully) turns into a nail-biting experience for the first hour. The dialogues are clever and crisp, and they are never expository passages. The humour is smartly infused, and it works without interfering with the narrative, which maintains a fun, light tone throughout the runtime. The performances are effective, and Robert Downey Jr stands out among the cast. Overall, this isn't essential viewing, but you'd have great fun while watching it. (3.5/5) @SSGDP of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board Let me start by saying that I was so looking forward to watching this movie! I loved the idea of girl power, and have enjoyed all of the other superhero movies that I have watched thus far. With all that being said, I was so disappointed! There was not enough character development, Carol (Captain Marvel) was far too naïve and followed what other people said, and she was given too many bizarre powers at the end of the movie, which made the story seem even more unrealistic. Overall, I would not recommend this movie to others, because for me it was a major letdown. @PenelopeScriptor of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
