Magic Town seems like a Frank Capra-lite film starring one of his favorite actors James Stewart. Maybe Capra was busy making State of the Union or maybe this film was just not significant enough for Mr. Capra. Whatever, it was a pleasant surprise to find this comedy of a duplicitous schemer played by Stewart suckering a whole town for his secret business. It is all quite amusing until the last 40 minutes or so when there is a 10 minute noirish segment with those dark shadows enclosing around Stewart and the other main attraction Jane Wyman. See if you can spot this noir-like moment. Hey Americans who are tired of the tea-party people bringing the government to a halt. Watch the last 20 minutes where the fed-up populace say yes we can and they toss the tea-party-like naysayers into the dustbin of history.
