This is a well-written sf novel, save for several shortcomings: if you are an SF fan, you will grasp the plotline within the first several pages [really, really well-used or wornout story gimmick, stopped being clever years ago!]; also, the main character is highly implausible [Jules Feiffer's file clerk cartoon, once a mainstay in Playboy Magazine, was meant to be a joke - - file clerk as supergenius, but uninterested in utilizing said genius]. Stating that, a new SF fan will probably love this book, and not too bad a read otherwise.
