Instead of Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple, we have a spick and span Commissaire Samuel Labarthe as Swan Laurence, a no-nonsense widower with manicured nails. To provide laughters in between crimes, there are the ever affable red head reporter Alice Avril, played by Blandine Bellavoir and his ever faithful lovelorn statuesque blond secretary played by a Elodie Frenck. This series is as much about familiar Agatha Christie's murders as the delightful interactions among the trio of likeable characters. Videodisc release of 6 films, ~ninety minutes each, produced for French television 2012-2014: 1. Sparkling cyanide -- Meurtre au champagne 2013 A famous movie star commits suicide during the shooting of her latest film. Alice replaces her on the set while Laurence investigates. 2. Dumb witness -- Témoin Muet 2013 Chief Insp. Laurence investigates the death of a woman who wrote the police insisting that her life was threatened. 3. Why not Martin? -- Pourquoi pas Martin? (adapted from Why Didn't They Ask Evans?) 2013 Avril hears the last words of a man who was gravely injured from a fall off a cliff. 4. Murder at the Kermesse -- Meurtre à la kermesse (adapted from Hallowe'en Party) 2014 After a gunfight, Laurence is left blind. Meanwhile a child is found drowned in a bucket of water. Laurence decides to hide his condition to investigate himself. 5. Cards on the table -- Cartes sur table 2014 Superintendent Laurence and Alice Avril are invited to a special diner, involving unsolved crimes. During the evening their host is killed ... 6. Crime does not pay -- Le crime ne paie pas (inspired by Murder on the Links) 2014 Avril goes undercover in a cabaret where a waitress was killed, and the boss kidnapped.
