As an artist, I'm drawn to movies about artists. This was interesting, although painful at times to watch because of the hardship and abuse that Maude, played by Sally Hawkins, is subjected to. But she's portrayed as a feisty woman that you can't help but love, and she doesn't let the hard times get in the way of her painting, which is her release. The man she marries, played by Ethan Hawke, is portrayed as a very cold and sometimes abusive man who lightens up and grows to love Maude. While based on a true story, I don't know how much of it is true and how much artistic license was taken. Definitely worth a watch.
